Four-Day Coached Chamber Music Experience
Featuring many of your favorite coaches from our summer Play Week workshops, our new four-day "long weekend" program is designed to provide individualized coaching to one group at a time.
Your preformed duo, trio, quartet, or quintet may apply for any of the available dates below. Your group will be matched with one of our stellar coaches and will receive four coached sessions during your time with us.
Groups at any level in their development are welcome, as long as you have pre-formed. You may choose your own repertoire or we can assign appropriate repertoire for you. Our program can accommodate string players, wind players, and pianists.
A Sample Schedule (can be further customized)
7 - 9 am Breakfast; stretching/qigong in the garden
9 am - 12 pm Playing session; coached half of duration
12 - 1 pm Lunch
1 - 3 pm Planned local activities; relaxation; walks
3 - 6 pm Playing session; coached half of duration
6:30 pm Dinner
The heart of the program is the schedule of twice-daily playing sessions, each coached for half of their duration. Playing sessions will be scheduled in the mornings and in the late afternoons or early evenings (depending on time of year), to allow some time for explorations of the area. Each group will receive advance information about supplemental optional activities during the time they are here.
We are excited to offer fresh, delicious meals sourced primarily from the local farms and markets in the Hudson River Valley and prepared by our expert caterer Martha Kessler. We will eat in the open air whenever weather allows.
Additionally, the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America is just a 10-minute drive from our location. Your group may choose to book a lunch or dinner at one of their stellar restaurants, and we can help advise as needed.
Our Location: Hyde Park & "The Barn"
We are located in Hyde Park, New York, less than 15-minutes from the Poughkeepsie Train Station (Metro-North and Amtrak) or the Rhinecliff Station (Amtrak). If you choose to arrive by train, we can pick you up at the train station.
The area is noted for its natural beauty, extensive walking trails, farm-fresh produce, excellent restaurants, and preserved estates for touring. Hudson River Valley Tourism is an excellent source of information, and we will also provide you with our own suggestions at the time of your inquiry or registration.
Our site, The Barn, is the old 19th-century horse-and-buggy barn of the Vanderbilt Estate, located on a quaint, quiet lane directly across from the Vanderbilt Estate and its walking trails along the Hudson River. The Barn is a registered historic landmark--it's quirky!--as are several of the buildings nearby, including the historic Vanderbilt Creamery.
Playing sessions will be held in the 30-foot main room, where we have a grand piano available for use as well. Meals will be held either indoors or out, depending on weather. Our half acre yard is planted with pollinator gardens and an enclosed vegetable garden, areas we hope you will enjoy to relax and connect with nature.
Although we do not offer accommodations at The Barn, our area boasts numerous excellent Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, and airbnb offerings within an easy 10-15 minute drive.
Here are some of our favorites; please mention that you are attending a Play Week workshop to receive a 10% discount.
