About Play Week East

This year, Play Week East takes place on the lovely tree-lined campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. Easily accessible from New York and Philadelphia, the campus is located just 8 miles from the charming and culturally vibrant town of Princeton, NJ.

Each participant is assigned to two groups for the week. This week-long format provides a total of eleven chamber music ensemble coachings by our faculty, all experienced, first-rate players and consummate teachers. Opportunities are available throughout the week for special-topic sessions, large ensemble gatherings, and participant and faculty concerts.

The workshop begins Saturday afternoon and runs through early Saturday morning.

String and Wind Players

String players and pre-formed groups are welcome to apply (groups may pre-form for one of their two group assignments); some slots are also available for wind players.

Accommodations & Dining

Accommodations are in the Beckett Village dorms, Rider's newest and nicest residence halls. Participants will enjoy their own private, air-conditioned room within a four-bedroom suite. Each suite has its own bathroom with shower and large living room. For commuters, parking is adjacent to the building.

Meals are served at Daly's Dining Hall, with options including gluten-free and vegetarian meals. The lovely 10-minute walk from Beckett Village to Daly's passes by Centennial Lake and through the Campus Green. Those not wishing to walk may drive and park nearby.

Most ensembles meet in the spacious living rooms of the suites. The faculty and participants' concerts will take place in the beautiful, newly restored Gill Chapel.

All facilities are within a 10- to 15-minute walk.
